Everything Velvet is performed by Marta Alvarez, a sound engineer who was brought in at Storefront Records to work a session and ended up being asked to lay down a scratch vocal line. “There was an honesty and mystery in her voice that just froze the room,” says Xavier Dphrepaulezz p.k.a. Fantastic Negrito. “It wasn’t planned. But when it happened, I knew immediately: this is Everything Velvet.”
